SEDGEBERROW COMMUNITY SHOP

SEDGEBERROW COMMUNITY HUB/SHOP UPDATE May 2018                                                                                                                                                                The Sedgeberrow Community Hub Steering Group (SCHSG) met on May 1st 2018 to review the planning application details for siting a Temporary Community Hub on Glebe Meadow. These details have now been updated and hopefully, by the time you read this article, will have been forwarded to the Local Authority for Approval. The Steering Group plan to have met once again in May to set a date, time and location, for an open meeting of Sedgeberrow Residents early on June. Unfortunately, this information will not be available in time for this publication of the Sedgeberrow Post. Please look at the Notice Boards for an update.
The SCHSG are looking to sign up as many new members as possible and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future, please let us know if you wish to join. The more members we have the greater the opportunities for third party donations and grant funding for the scheme.
I would ask if you haven’t completed the survey and are interested in supporting this Community Enterprise please do so by following the survey details below or by contacting either Christine or I.
Best regards

SEDGEBERROW COMMUNITY HUB/SHOP UPDATE - February/March 2018
On December 5th 2017 an initial group of 10 village residents met to discuss and set up the Sedgeberrow Community Hub/Shop Steering Group. This now established group will remain open to new members for the foreseeable future, please let us know if you wish to join. The meeting was graciously hosted by Sue Morris. The following was established as an initial position:
Interim Representatives were elected as follows: Chairman. Chris Devereaux-Little. Secretary. Sue Morris (Shared Role)
Treasurer. Christine Beaver. Initial Considerations.
It is proposed that all future references will be to a Community Hub/Shop. It is further proposed that the Community Hub/Shop will be setup as a Co-operative in Shareholder Ownership by the residents of Sedgeberrow. This will require the preparation of a written Constitution. Whilst 4 locations were identified and discussed it was proposed, subject to Planning Considerations, that Glebe Meadow may make the most practical site. The group still remains open to recommendations for alternative site to be considered.

News Update  - December 2017/January 2018

I have now received interest from a number of resident volunteers keen to look into the establishment of Community Shop in Sedgeberrow. It is now my intent to formally set-up a Community led Working Group/Committee to consider this opportunity further. The Parish Council wish to support this Community led initiative and at the Parish Council Meeting on Wednesday November 8th 2017 agreed that two Parish Councillors would be actively involved with the new committee.
Ideally a Working Group should consist of a minimum of 5 individuals but no more than 11, furthermore there should be no more than two Parish Councillors involved. If you are a resident and wish to become more involved please contact either myself or Christine Beaver.  Best regards Chris Devereaux-Little. News Update  - October/November 2017

The Feasibility of a Community Shop in Sedgeberrow depends on three studies, Planned Accommodation, Proposed Operation and Expected Use. Resident’s engagement throughout each of these stages is essential for this opportunity to succeed. Some residents have expressed support for this proposal but it is vital that volunteers come forward to assist with the further development of these studies.
Accommodation
There is a current proposal to temporarily locate the Community Shop at the north end of Glebe Meadow in a secure temporary building. I am now looking into the feasibility of this location and what would be an acceptable provision of suitable accommodation. This simple report will be published sometime around the early to the middle of October 2017.
Stakeholders and interested parties for consultation are:-
The Parochial Church Council who originally donated the land to the Villagers of Sedgeberrow and in so doing placed covenants on the lands use.
The Sedgeberrow Village Hall Charity as Property Title Holders of Glebe Meadow.
Sedgeberrow Parish Council as the financial Trust Holders.
Wychavon Planning Department will need to be consulted regarding the this temporary building being part of Glebe Meadows “Permitted Development Rights” or for the more formal requirement of Planning Approval.
Adjacent Property owners will need to be engaged and involved with the proposed location and possible minor disruption should agreements be reached with all other parties. Any suitable agreement reached between the above will then require a Village Referendum. Moving forward can I ask that all volunteers, past and future, please urgently make contact with me by phone or email as below.
Best regards. Chris Devereaux-Little.

April/May 2017. The search for premises has been prolonged due to a shortage of any reasonably priced and available locations. Further development may require access to funding that could be available through the New Homes Bonus.

We have been looking to find a suitable date, or dates, for an "Open Forum" presentation and discussions of the received suggestions around the possible use of the "New Homes Bonus". One formal suggestion at the Parish Assembly for some of those funds to go towards a Community Shop, was agreed.

Please continue to contact me to let me know if a Community Shop would receive your patronage.

Best regards

December/January: Many thanks to those who contacted me expressing their interest in a Sedgeberrow Community Shop. Many are keen to be involved in either the management or day to day attendances. To be a success though we still need more families to pledge similar support.

The planned October meeting to establish a Steering Group hasn’t yet taken place. We have been delayed looking at the possibility of Community New Homes Bonus monies, and need to coordinate two open meetings to present and discuss various options, including the Community Shop. These should take place before the end of November
I’m keen to be in touch with anyone who is interested. Contact me at:- Tel:-01386 882217
