What it means for Sedgeberrow
Issued when the river level at the Hinton gauge is forecast to reach 3 metres. This level is not high enough to overtop the flood defence between the river and Winchcombe Road though may affect residential properties in The Hollows and on Cheltenham Road to the east of the river. See Map AREA 1
A second flood warning will be issued when the river level at the Hinton gauge is forecast to reach 3.35 metres. This is when it is expected that the river will overtop the flood defence adjacent to Winchcombe road and flood many properties in the village. See Map AREA 2
A severe flood warning will be used in extreme circumstances to tell people that flooding poses a significant risk to life.
A final message of Flooding No Longer in Force will be issued once river levels have receded.
The siren will sound from The Queens Head pub once the water levels reach a dangerous stage to alert the community to take action.
Following several articles in the village magazine all 80 flooded properties in Sedgeberrow received a questionnaire to complete regarding what help they might like should a flood happen again. In all 30 properties responded back and of these, 24 properties requested help. All 24 of these properties have now been visited personally by a member of the flood group to establish their specific needs and vulnerabilities and the information gathered has been stored electronically for use in an emergency. At the same time a request was also made to the village for flood volunteers and an overwhelming 40 households have responded back with a range of skills and specific assistance they can offer. This includes :-
